چکیده

With existing tools, when creating a new object in the Semantic Web, users benefit neither from existing objects and their properties, nor from the already known properties of the new object. We propose UTILIS, an interactive process to help users add new objects. While creating a new object, relaxation rules are applied to its current description to find similar objects, whose properties serve as suggestions to expand the description. A user study conducted on a group of master students shows that students, even the ones disconcerted by the unconventional interface, used UTILIS suggestions. In most cases, they could find the searched element in the first three sets of properties of similar objects. Moreover, with UTILIS users did not create any duplicate whereas with the other tool used in the study more than half of them did.

Towards Well-Behaved Schema Evolution

We study the problem of schema evolution in the RDF data model. RDF and the RDFS schema language are W3C standards for flexibly modeling and sharing data on the web. Although schema evolution has been intensively studied in the database and knowledge-representation communities, only recently has progress been made on the study of RDFS schema evolution. Indeed, the flexible nature of RDF poses n...

On Explicit Provenance Management in RDF/S Graphs

The notion of RDF Named Graphs has been proposed in order to assign provenance information to data described using RDF triples. In this paper, we argue that named graphs alone cannot capture provenance information in the presence of RDFS reasoning and updates. In order to address this problem, we introduce the notion of RDF/S Graphsets: a graphset is associated with a set of RDF named graphs an...

RUL: a Declarative Language for Updating RDF Data Master’s Thesis

Semantic Web applications are striving nowadays for managing changes of persistent resource descriptions created according to RDFS schemata. To cope with this demands, a declarative update language for RDF graphs is proposed, which is based on the paradigms of query and view languages RQL and RVL. This language, called RUL, ensures that the execution of the update primitives on nodes and arcs n...

Updating RDFS: from Theory to Practice

There is a comprehensive body of theory studying updates and schema evolution of knowledge bases, ontologies, and in particular of RDFS. In this paper we turn these ideas into practice by presenting a feasible and practical procedure for updating RDFS. Along the lines of ontology evolution, we treat schema and instance updates separately, showing that RDFS instance updates are not only feasible...

RUL: A Declarative Update Language for RDF

We propose a declarative update language for RDF graphs which is based on the paradigms of query and view languages RQL and RVL. Our language, called RUL, ensures that the execution of the update primitives on nodes and arcs neither violates the semantics of the RDF model nor the semantics of the given RDFS schema. In addition, RUL supports fine-grained updates at the class and property instanc...
